A wall divides and defines space; yet beyond every wall, a boy looks up at the stars and keeps walking toward the light. Bringing together painting, light, installation, and found objects, the exhibition turns the walls of the city into a voice, telling stories of migration and borders, resistance and freedom, and, above all, hope. The exhibition will be held from October 15 to November 10, 2026, at AP SPACE in Chelsea, New York.

Exhibition Highlights:
HOPE: The Wall Speaks begins with a question: Is a wall only a barrier that divides people, or is it a voice that carries the stories of those who lived beside it? For Lee, the city is a living archive. Its walls and windows hold the memories of people who struggled, dreamed and survived there, and the graffiti, cracks and stains they leave behind speak for voices that official history never recorded.
The exhibition reconstructs urban walls, windows, old doors and industrial materials through painting, installation, mirrors and LED. Recurring images of city facades, graffiti, B-boys and young boys form a shared visual language across the show. The B-boy stands for freedom, dignity and the refusal to give up in the face of hardship; the boy facing the wall keeps moving toward the light beyond it.

Light is central. LED and reflective materials act as signals of hope that do not fade even in moments of despair, conflict and separation, while mirrors draw viewers and the surrounding space into the work, blurring the line between art and reality. The hope Lee offers is not passive optimism but the courage to keep walking toward the light.

Highlights include The Boys, featured on the exhibition leaflet, along with Signals of Hope, The Heart Still Beats, The City Remembers and Hope Beyond the Wall. At a time when war, migration and division continue around the world, the exhibition uses the wall as a universal symbol to ask what allows people to move beyond their boundaries.
Artist
A Seoul-born contemporary artist whose practice moves between painting, installation and media, Lee Jin Hyu explores memory, history and the human will to cross boundaries. Lee graduated from Gachon University in Korea and earned a master's degree in painting in Madrid, Spain. His artistic lineage runs through the heart of Korean abstraction: he studied under Yun Hyong-keun, who was himself the student and son-in-law of Kim Whanki. Lee carries the spiritual legacy of this tradition forward, extending it into graffiti and hip-hop culture, the human body in motion, LED light, media and found objects. He is a professor in the Fine Art Department at Gachon University.
Lee's perspective is shaped by an international path, from Korea to Iraq to Spain. Questioning an art history centered on the United States and European countries, he favors a pluralist view of culture and history, approaching the past and present from a human rather than a national point of view. His early public projects, including memorial-park and cemetery works, explored how a society understands life, death and time.
Over four decades, Lee has exhibited widely across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States, including ARCO96 (Madrid), the Granada Biennale (1997), Art Stage Singapore (2012), KIAF Korea International Art Fair (2010), the New York Art Show (2011), and an exhibition marking 30 years of UAE–Korea diplomatic relations (2010). In the United States, he has presented a special invitational at the LA Art Show and a solo exhibition in Los Angeles.
