HARMONY IN CONTRAST
JANUARY 10TH, 2024 – January 30th, 2024
555W 25th St.New York, NY, 10001
AP Space delighted to present "Harmony in Contrast," a duo exhibition featuring the works of Matthew Langley and Soojung Park. This exhibition brings together the echo of the two artists’ familiar yet conceptual visions, creating a visual dialogue to explore the possibilities beyond what meets the eyes, harmonizing what is, and what the viewer imagines it to be.

Matthew Langley is a contemporary American painter, whose abstract compositions draw the viewer into a world of vibrant hues and overlapping layers in a structured, yet unconstrained method. His intuitive use of shape and form creates a dynamic interplay that inspires contemplation and introspection, as well as a sense of organization, serenity, and depth. Langley's work is a celebration of the energy that occurs when opposing components coexist in a harmonious infinity.

In contrast, Soojung Park's pieces evoke a sense of exploration and transparency. Her mastery is known in the usage of traditional techniques with mediums such as ink and pigment, where she sands and rubs shades onto both front and back of plexiglass surface. Park captures the essence of stillness in the midst of movement within her subjects. Each of her pieces appears to be a section of a continuous movement, one after the other, but in no particular order. Whether the artworks are placed next to or across from one another, the harmony within her works create sense, virtually leading the eyes to see what isn't there contrasted to what is. The juxtaposition of her tranquil scenes against Langley's dynamic abstractions creates a captivating narrative that encourages viewers to explore the beauty in both movement and stillness.

"Harmony in Contrast" invites a visual conversation between two artists who, despite their distinct styles, find unity in their subtle connections in their artistic expression. Langley and Park engage in a plethora of colors, shapes, and emotions, inviting the viewer to discover the moments within one movement and the impact it can have on the human experience.
